About Us \ History

Destination & Conference Services, Inc. was launched by its owner and Managing Director, Bobby Retz. Bobby began his career in the hospitality industry in 1987 at The Westin La Paloma, Tucson, AZ. After a number of very successful managerial stops and selected as an opening manager for new Westin Hotels, he was approached by the resort about starting and running an in-house Destination Management Department. Throughout the next few years the department became very successful in providing quality of service for clients. In fact, clients who used Bobby’s in house department asked if he could help them in other cities/countries, so he would take vacation time from the resort to run those particular meetings. Then he decided to start his own business as well as continuing to manage the Destination Management Department for La Paloma.

He named his company Destination & Conference Services Inc. and began assisting groups outside of the Westin La Paloma and Westin Resorts on a regular basis. DCS became the preferred Destination Meeting Management Company for some very large companies and Bobby decided to leave the resort entirely. However, the resort made a decision to keep DCS in house at the Westin La Paloma to maintain high quality levels in the destination management area as well as help sell group business. We also continue to serve as the preferred Destination Management Company for top companies all over the United States and Canada. DCS is The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa’s preferred Destination Management Company and Caterpillar has recently chosen DCS as their exclusive U.S. Destination Management Company.

Although DCS is based out of Tucson, Arizona, it is able to provide exceptional quality and value for its customers throughout the State of Arizona and the Country by maintaining great vender relationships and also by having representatives of DCS on-site at all times throughout each event. All DCS Event Agents are knowledgeable in the operations of each event and adhere to all laws and regulations. DCS provides a Director of Operations and a staff of well-trained event agents, who work together as a team with the Managing Director, who is always involved, not only in the pre-planning, but also during its execution to ensure the quality of service is being exceeded. Managers are present at all functions to ensure the highest levels of quality are maintained. The team is in radio communication in case of any last minute changes.

Furthermore, DCS also has extensive Hotel Management experience, so they are also able to recommend room sets, food and beverage options and assist with hotel contracts. DCS is also very flexible on guarantee deadlines and cancellations relating to group transportation and events. In fact, we at DCS strive to eliminate cancellation penalties on behalf of its clients where we are able. DCS will negotiate a guarantee policy directly with its vendor that will benefit its customer so they can accurately predict attendance at events. DCS has also given discounts based on volume for its preferred customers. We also provide custom specifications for all group projects. All events are personally managed and developed within a strict budget provided by our clients. DCS customizes its personnel assigned to each project based on group size and/or duration of event. Prior to the execution of a program, DCS managers will meet with its clients to review all details regarding events and finalize guarantees.

DCS, prior to an event and formal proposals, will complete a thorough site inspection to visit possible off-site venues, tours and review theme events. All proposals are customized based on time constraints and number of participants and event options are line costed so client can easily choose which are best suited for there participants.
